Apples are an extremely rich source of flavanoid anti-oxidants which can help to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals in the body.

Some of these antioxidants are:

  • Quercetin
  • Catechin
  • Chlorogenic acid

Quercetin is a nutrient that occurs in many plant foods and may have anti-inflammatory, antiviral and anti-cancer properties. Catechin is a natural antioxidant which may improve brain and muscle function. Chlorogenic acid has been found in some studies to lower blood sugar.

High in fibre and vitamin C, apples are also a good source of potassium which may benefit heart health
